The Springstead Eagle boys cross country team took a gamble at districts in waiting to run junior Keith Smith until regionals and secured a regional birth. “While we didn’t have our best performances with a few sick athletes and without Keith our back half ran exceptionally well today to secure a spot at regionals.”
Gianni Rodriguez Gracia, John “Jack” Blair, and Elijah Romero had their bests races of the season collectively overtaking over 20 athletes seeded above them to ensure the advancement for the eagles. “We’ve been putting a lot of pressure on these three guys to perform and today they did. We just need to collectively perform when it counts next week to give us a shot at a state birth.”
The boys team will run full strength for the FHSAA Regional Championships next Thursday morning at Fred Poppe Regional Park in Palm Bay.
