The eagles boys had three top five performances and a great shot at the win but lost in a tiebreaker to place second at the GC8 Championships on Thursday. As scores became tabulated a tie emerged as both Citrus and Springstead had 41 points at the end of the meet. High School rules dictate that the sixth man on both teams is who determines the winner. Since Citrus' sixth man placed two places higher than Springstead's sixth man; Citrus got the victory.
Both teams had some injuries so it made the meet pretty interesting between the two squads. The leaders went out especially hard and then it was a test of will to see who emerged out of the woods in the final mile. Collin Mindt edged himself into the record books with the third fastest time in school history but barely was beat out by Noah Carpenter from Nature Coast. Following closely behind Mindt was both Avery Smith (5th All Time) & Theodore Toler. That pack of three have really worked hard this season and I am excited to see what they produce in post season as we haven't tapered yet.
Gianni Rodriguez Gracia, Jack Blair, and Elijah Romero brought home the final scores for the eagles.
Graham gave particular shoutouts to Jack Blair, Elijah Romero, Wyatt Oden, and Onyx Schmidt who had their best performances of the year by far. Those guys well exceeded expectations on a fast course with most setting personal records for the season or lifetime by well over a minute.
