The Lady Eagles patiently have waited 15 years to win a championship. On Thursday they beat out a tough Lecanto and Citrus team to take the GC8 Championship Title. The past two years the eagles came up short by only 2 points but became victorious today by 6 points.
The Eagles had two top five finishes with Lainee Mercer winning the event from the gun by well over a minute and a half. She not only broke Springstead's School Record but also broke the conference record in the process. Lainee took down Amber Philpott's school record from 2013 with a new best of 18:23.3. Both were achieved on a course that is deemed fast due to pavement and also the great weather on Thursday evening. Olivia Allen was the other high finisher placing 5th in the field.
The tight pack of Alyssa Hoyt, Kylee Redmond, Aliya Rosario who were not far behind Allen sealed the win for the lady eagles.
Coach Graham was particularly impressed with Evony Osorio, Vanessa Bandini, Mollie Surak, and Erin Laughlin who all had their best performances of the year. These girls didn't just improve a little but by minutes in todays race.
